Membership Requirements
For Active Membership, persons are required to serve on the DCFD Canteen Unit or otherwise take part in the field operations, for a period of five (5) years.
They are on a twenty-four hour call basis to respond to multi-alarm fires or other incidents to which the units may be dispatched.
An Associate Membership is also available, subject to the approval of the Active Membership, to:
(a) active members who have been in good standing for two years and who move from the metropolitan area and wish to continue their affiliation with FFA
or
(b) those persons who may be proposed by an Active Member and who may be unable to become Active Members but who are vitally interested in the purposes of the Association. Associate Members are not eligible to vote or hold office.
Fees
Initiation fee is $12.50 and dues for Active Members is $30.00 per year, Associate Members, $15.00 per year, to be paid on a quarterly, semi-annual or annual basis (member's choice). Initial dues payment must be at the semi-annual rate and accompany the initiation fee.
Background Investigation
All new applicants are investigated by a committee of Active Members.
This may take several months according to procedures laid down by the By-Laws. New Active Members must also be certified by the D.C. Government to drive a five-ton van and recieve approval for issuance of a Personal Accountability Identification Tag by the District of Columbia Fire & EMS Department.
Association Meetings
Individuals with an interest in out mission and operation are welcome to attend a regular meeting of the Association. Meetings are ordinarily held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Friendship Fire Association HQ.
